I have always been sporty, devoting a lot of my time to hockey, but I have always been limited by the capabilities of my left hip. For those of you who know me, I am sure, just like myself, you are sick of hearing me tell my story to anyone that asks, but a new hip chapter, and hopefully the last for a while, is about to start.
I was diagnosed with CDH, congenital displacement of the hip, at birth. This was renamed DDH, developmental dysplasia of the hip, due to the range of symptoms now associated with other conditions. While DDH treatment is very good, succes very much depends on the child’s age at diagnosis, treatment and the technical skills and knowledge of the doctors.
Something that isn’t talked about much is the long-term repercussion of DDH treatment, At the grand age of 20, I am currently counting down the days until my first hip replacement, June 10th 2015. And this is where my new chapter and blog begins.
